Weekly Bulletin - Friday 15th July
The top highlight this week must be the Year 6 trip to the Isle of Wight.
This week, we have had more events than days of the week! The top highlight must be the Year 6 trip to the Isle of Wight. Every evening I have enjoyed seeing the collage of photos from the day. They certainly looked to be having a fantastic time and I look forward to hearing their anecdotes next week (they were too tired this afternoon to share much!).
It has been an active week. It started with the Infant Orienteering Morning on Monday. They showed great teamwork and speed as they collected information from different points around the outside area using a map. There was also a cricket taster day for the Juniors. Tuesday saw the Year 3 and 4 disco. A great time was had by all and I was most impressed by the children’s behaviour. They were most impressed by the lights and the bubble machine! On Wednesday, Year 5 went to see Barnum, the Musical, at Coombe Boys. On Thursday, Reception had a Teddy Bears Picnic show which proved very engaging and fun. Year 5 went out again to visit Kingston Mosque. Today was the Nursery Fun Day. I was impressed that they were given challenges, which even the Infants did not take on, such as balancing bean bags on their head while carrying an egg and spoon. Thank goodness this was scheduled to take place before the extreme temperatures!
We started our programme of ‘meet the teacher’ talks for parents/carers and children will be visiting their new classroom and teacher next Wednesday. If you were unable to join us for the talk, don’t worry. The key information is in the pamphlet which was sent to you via ParentMail.
As I write this, I am very conscious that we are preparing for the final week of term and the final week at this school for some of us. I do hope that many of you will be able to join us next Friday at 9.45 a.m. in the church for our final, celebratory end of year service.
Arrangements for the heat wave in light of the red warning of extreme heat
As outlined in our recent ParentMail, the latest forecast for Monday and Tuesday is for record temperatures of 40 and 39 degrees. We would therefore suggest that all children wear their PE shorts or summer dresses to keep as cool as possible. Please make sure they have their water bottles (frozen ones are very pleasant). We will make sure we have a low key day without too much movement and that we stay inside or use the shade. Please be reassured that children will have their lunches before the early closing. Children who are booked for Connect will stay on their own site until the normal end of the school day and then the juniors will be walked down to Connect. If you are no longer wish to use your pre-booked Connect space for either of those two days, do let us know, as it helps us to plan.
Due to the high temperature, there will be a change to the school lunch menu for Monday and Tuesday: the kitchen will be providing pasta with a tomato sauce or jacket potato with a choice of fillings - cheese, baked beans or tuna. Please send your child to school with a packed lunch if they do not like these choices. The menu will be as usual for the rest of the week
