Pupil Premium
At Christ Church New Malden, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential, regardless of their background or financial situation. The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help us support pupils who may face barriers to learning due to economic disadvantage.
What is the Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is extra money allocated to schools to support children who:
- Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM)
- Have been eligible for FSM at any point in the last 6 years
- Are in care or have previously been in care
- Have a parent serving in the armed forces
We use this funding to provide targeted support that removes obstacles to learning, builds confidence, and promotes inclusion.
What Do Pupil Premium Pupils Receive at CCNM?
We are committed to ensuring all our children can access the full richness of school life and use the Pupil Premium to support this. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium, they will also receive:
- A Free Christ Church New Malden Hoodie Part of our school uniform, fostering a sense of belonging and pride.
- A Free Pencil Case and Stationery To ensure every child has the tools they need to be ready for learning from day one.
- A Free School Club Every Term Every term, Pupil Premium children can book one free school music or sports club and have priority booking for that club.
- No Charges for School Trips or In-School Workshops All educational visits and workshops during the school day are fully funded for Pupil Premium children – we never want cost to be a barrier to experiences that enrich learning.
- Residential Trips in Year 5 and Year 6 Families are only asked to pay the deposit for these key residential experiences. The remainder of the cost is covered by the school, enabling all children to take part in these valuable opportunities for independence, teamwork and growth.
Applying for Pupil Premium / Free School Meals
You can apply for the Free School Meal (Pupil Premium) here. This is different from the free school meals that children currently get, and gets access to more funding for your child.
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 currently receive Universal Infant Free School Meals, regardless of family income.
Thanks to additional funding from the Mayor of London, children in Years 3 to 6 also currently receive free school meals during this academic year (2024–2025). However, this funding is reviewed annually and may not continue in future years.
We strongly encourage all eligible families to still register for Pupil Premium, even if their child is receiving a free meal. Registering ensures your child can access the full range of support we offer—including free trips, resources, and residential trip support—and it helps the school receive vital additional funding to support your child’s education.
If you think you might be eligible, please speak to the school office in confidence—we’re happy to help with the application process.
